EAST Lindsey District Council leader Coun Doreen Stephenson has agreed to investigate whether the auditorium at the Embassy Theatre should be enlarged.
In response to quizzing from Coun Mark Anderson at a full meeting of the authority, she said: “I will discuss this with colleagues - it is something worth looking at for the future.”
Coun Anderson revealed that his question was prompted by his own lack of success in buying tickets for a performance by world-famous comedian Lee Evans because the show had been a sell-out.
He added that a larger auditorium would make the Embassy a more attractive proposition for conference organisers, with the potential for generating income in the “shoulder months” of the year.
It has long been a gripe among hoteliers and traders in Skegness that ELDC has never been able to attract major party political conferences to the resort in the same way as other seaside towns such as Blackpool, Brighton, Eastbourne and Scarborough.
