THE Alford Silver Band will be putting on a special show this Saturday (October 15) in aid of charity.

The concert will be held in St. Wilfrid’s Church, Alford at 7.30pm.

And every penny raised will go towards RAFT (the Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust), a national medical research charity which covers burns and other major skin damage.

The show is the brainchild of band member Mike Green who first became involved with RAFT during his fire service career in Berkshire.

“I had a professional interest in their research into burns recovery,” said Mike.

“Their work was not just about improving the appearance of traumatic burns victims, itself vitally important, but also in restoring the function of the damaged tissue.

“In effect, they were putting normality back into the lives of very seriously injured people.

“St Wilfrid’s acoustically perfect and ideal for a big band performance. It is also the largest venue in Alford. Filling it would raise a substantial sum.”

Tickets for the concert cost just £4 at the door.
