THE Northcote Heavy Horse Centre at Great Steeping is set to welcome a whole host of medieval characters this Sunday, August 21 for a special event.
The Medieval Tournament will feature everything from medieval jousting displays and fire breathing through to full costume parades, archery and bird of prey displays.
The centre’s Terena Bolam said: “The bird demonstrations are brilliant and the talks on the birds are very informative and they often bring ten birds with them for the public to see.
“As well as the birds of prey the resident heavy horses and their riders will be in full costume demonstrating mounted skill at arms, with some of the riders very keen to win the tournament.
“These hopefuls include Sir Heels Down and his trusted Shire horse Hercules, who have won the last few tournaments.
“But the Black Knight is definitely looking for a win this time, so Sir Heels better watch out,” Terna added.
As well as the mounted knights the Lincolnshire equestrian vaulting team will be demonstrating gymnastics on horseback.
There will be a side-saddle demo and the jester will be entertaining the crowd with fire-breathing and eating.
“These are just a few of the main ring entertainment on offer,” continued Terena.
“We also have some stalls, bouncy castle, hot and cold food and drinks as well as a licensed bar provided from the Bell pub at Halton Holegate.
“The day is a major fundraiser for the care of the horses that live at the horse centre, which is a registered charity.
“This event is the last of the big events of the summer season.”
Admission on Sunday is £5 for adults £5 and £3.50 for children and OAPs. Gates open at 10.45am and the fun starts with a parade of horses at 11.15am. The day ends at 3pm All money raised will go straight to the care of the 15 horses and ponies that live at the centre.
