A ‘driving force’ behind East Lindsey’s ‘thriving’ programme of cultural events has been appointed to a prestigious role on the Arts Council.
Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Coun Doreen Stephenson, recently joined the new Arts Council England Midlands area board to use her experience in cultural events to advise others.
“The benefits of a thriving cultural programme are regularly underestimated,” she said.
“A good cultural offering can increase footfall significantly - as we have shown through events such as our annual SO Festival.
“This is turn gives a much needed boos to the local economy, this benefitting he wide community.
“It also brings culture to a wider audience of people who otherwise may not have had the chance to experience such events and has created opportunities for local people to showcase their talents as well as offering volunteering opportunities within the district.
“I am looking forward to meeting with other members of the Arts Council board and working with them in the future in an area which I am passionate about sharing some of the knowledge I have.”
In her new role, Coun Stephenson will be tasked with helping to deliver art and culture to everyone in the East Midlands.
Area director for Arts Council England (Midlands), Peter Knott, said: “Councillor Stephenson has always been a strong advocate for arts and culture, with ongoing support for events such as the highly successful SO Festival, bringing the arts to new audiences and encouraging visitors and tourists to the district.
“I look forward to working with her to continue our development of a strong, flourishing and sustainable art and culture sector across the Midlands.
