Young readers celebrated their achievements at Burgh le Marsh Library on Saturday with a special visit from a popular children’s author.
Georgia Twynham, writer of the award-winning fantasy series ‘The Thirteenth’, paid homage to the youngsters who completed last year’s Summer Reading Challenge at the library.
The yearly challenge inspires children and young people to enjoy up to six books during the school holidays, while working through a series of targets and rewards based on a fun theme.
Last year’s theme was Mythical Maze, which introduced youngsters to fantastical creatures from mythology.
More than 80 per cent of youngsters taking part at Burgh le Marsh Library reached the six-book target - more than at any other tier three library in Lincolnshire.
Georgia Twynham said: “At a time when access to books can be difficult as children are out of school, the libraries put on a service that truly shows off their enthusiasm, imagination and vast collection of young readers’ books.
“Burgh le Marsh Library truly excelled this year. Having visited the library and met the wonderful staff I can see why they did so well.”
The theme for 2015’s Summer Reading Challenge will be based on The Guinness Book of Records.
