Skegness Town Reserves 4 Park United 1

Skegness eased their way into the next round of the Willoughby Cup with victory over Division Two side Park United.

Within five minutes of the first whistle Town were two goals to the good, the first was an own goal; the second was scored by Adrian Verhuel, the ball coming off the striker’s shoulder and nestling in the bottom corner.

Throughout the rest of the first period the home team played some neat football and were rewarded with the third goal. Jay Verhuel was brought down in the penalty area for his team’s first of two penalties of the afternoon and Joe Errington scored his second of the season from the spot to make the half time score 3-0.

Just after the interval, Park pulled a goal back with a penalty.

This didn’t deter the home team from playing patient football.

All three subs, James Bland, Michael Marinov and Shaun Connelly, were used and it was the lively Marinov who won his team their second penalty. He stepped forward and tucked away the spot kick to make the final score 4-1.

Town had a few long range shots in the final 15 minutes but failed to worry the visitors’ keeper.

Man of the match: Jamie Epton.

On Saturday Skegness Town Reserves travel to Swineshead Institute for a cup semi-final (kick-off 2pm).
