Skegness cricketers shown no mercy in crushing loss

SKEGNESS were put to the sword by a powerful Bracebridge Heath side at Cross-O-Cliff Court.

Still smarting from losing their seven-year grip of the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League title in 2010, Heath showed the seasiders no mercy.

Visiting skipper Tony Santini won the toss and put Bracebridge into bat, but his team were soon under pressure trying to stem the flow of runs.

Opener Karanjit Bansal hit 21 off 20 balls, but it was at the other end that Nick John grabbed the limelight, falling just four runs short of his century after hitting 14 fours and one six.

Alford boy George Neal was also in fine form, finding the boundary five times in his unbeaten 68, while wicket keeper Jason Scheepers smacked a tired looking attack around the ground to register 42 from 26 deliveries.

Indeed, dropping Scheepers early in his quick fire knock proved costly for the seasiders, denying them a chance of extra bowling bonus points and allowing the home side to reach the 300 mark.

Michael Jackson was the pick of the Skegness bowlers. Although he picked up just one wicket he was consistent throughout, restricting the home side to three an over until the reprieved Scheepers let loose late on.

The Skegness cause was not helped by giving away a total of 43 extras.

Against a lively Bracebridge attack 306 was always going to be a big ask and opener Jamie Epton lost two of his partners, Norman Brackley (5) and Pete Houghton (6) before he got off the mark.

He went on to make nine from his 34 balls before being caught behind by Scheepers off the bowling of Thomas Barker.

Paul Butler helped the seasiders to three figures in partnerships with Wade McCall and top scorer Carl Wilson (35), as the visitors looked to grab a few batting bonus points on their way out.

They will now look to regroup before their first home game of the season on Saturday, when Lindum are the visitors to Richmond Drive (12.30pm start).
