Skegness (20pts) beat Grimsby Town (1pt) by eight wickets.

Hot on the heels of their first win of the season, Skegness recorded their first maximum points haul, as their improvement continued.

The seasiders bettered their 18-point success at Spalding by two points when they outclassed lowly Grimsby Town at Richmond Drive on Saturday.

It was a fine all-round performance by the home side, but there were notable contributions from Scott Tallott, who hit his maiden half century of the ECB campaign, and bowler Umar Farooq, who bagged four wickets.

Farooq’s tally included the key wicket of Maninder Singh, who was threatening to break loose when he was sent back to the pavilion by the bowler’s sharp diving catch off his own delivery.

Captain Norman Brackley was delighted with the day’s work. “Although Grimsby got off to a good start, we bowled and fielded well to get them out cheaply and then batted solidly to secure the points,” he said.

Indeed Joe Farmery and Steven Butterfield, the
Grimsby openers, looked comfortable as they raced to 40 without loss from the first seven overs.

But three wickets in quick succession during the middle of Tom Cuthbert’s excellent spell had the visitors reeling on 48 for 3.

Grimsby steadied the ship with a partnership of 35 between Singh and Cerri James, but Farooq’s dramatic dismissal of Singh triggered a collapse.

Extras of 20 was the
visitors’ second highest score as they only just secured a
solitary batting point with an all out total of 127 in the 39th over.

Over an early tea Skegness pondered on the fact they would have 61 overs to knock off the runs, but it soon became apparent that they would not need this extra help.

Tallott smacked 15 boundaries in his unbeaten knock of 78, off 70 balls, as the seasiders secured the victory before drinks.

The win lifted Skegness into ninth place in the table, above Grimsby.
