Spalding 161 for 9

Skegness 162 for 4

Skegness (16pts) beat Spalding (3pts) by six wickets.

Overseas player Sean Williams took six wickets to help Skegness beat Spalding at Richmond Drive.

Five of his victims came in two maiden overs at the end of the Aussie’s second spell, reducing the visitors from 146 for four to 147 for nine.

Teenager Williams finished with figures of six for 40 at the end of this superb effort.

During his first spell he bowled danger man Warren Nel for two. With the score on 20 for two.

At this point the seasiders were in a strong position but Josh Newton’s partnerships with Rob Ambrose and Charlie Kearns (39 and 67 respectively) recovered the situation for the visitors.

However, when Williams had Kearns caught by Paul Butler, the floodgates opened and the Aussie finished with a treble wicket maiden and a double wicket maiden to have Spalding teetering on the edge.

Despite Skegness having nine overs at the final pair, they were unable to turn to Williams to finish off the job as he had bowled his full quota of 14 overs.

So Spalding limped to 161 for nine.

Tom Cuthbert also bowled well for Skegness, without much luck, and finished with figures of two for 32 off 13 overs.

The Skegness response was predictable, with Saeed Bariwala racing to 18 off 12 balls before falling to an Ambrose catch off Kearns.

His partner Rick Lovelace had not troubled the scorers when Bariwala returned to the pavilion after the last ball of the third over.

Then Lovelace and Jamie Epton put on 73 before the opener was trapped lbw by Nel on 39.

Pete Houghton hit a four and a six and was then caught by Hussain off Nel for a 12-ball 14. Epton then departed, caught by Hussain off Barratt, with Skegness still needing 27 runs to win.

Norman Brackley and Paul Butler then knuckled down to see the seasiders over the line with 13 overs to spare. Brackley’s 29 came off 24 balls.

On Saturday Skegness travel to Grimsby for a 12 noon start.
