Simpson stars in derby

Skegness FC played local rivals Skegness Working Men’s Club in a league clash at Burgh.

In the first half, WMC had the better of the chances, hitting the bar and forcing Simpson into numerous saves to keep Skegness FC in the game.

The breakthrough finally came after 30 minutes, when Sleight turned his marker and slotted it past Simpson to give WMC the lead.

Skegness FC couldn’t get going and with five key players missing it looked like it was going to be a tough afternoon.

Against the run of play, Liles broke through the home defence and centred for Hardy to score.

The key moment of the game came after WMC were awarded a penalty, and Simpson guessed right to pull off a great save and keep Skegness FC in the game.

The second half brought about some changes for Skegness FC.

Man of the match Lonslow ran the home defence ragged, and after another run down the left, his cross found Reid who smashed the ball home only to have been given offside.

This didn’t deter FC and Critchlow’s drive was saved on the line, but the rebound fell for Lonslow to smash home.

WMC pressed hard in the last five minutes, but FC were not going to let their lead go, and defended hard to make sure they would keep all three points.

Skegness FC: D Simpson, K Minor (capt), M Smith, V Bee, J Fairburn, J Critchlow, M Richardson, J Lyal, A Liles, T Lonslow, M Hardy, D Reid.
