Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Alford is celebrating after its students enjoyed considerable sporting success in the autumn term, both in and out of school.
Students across all years in the school have achieved remarkable success both regionally and nationally in a wide range of sports including Ashton Turner, who won the Telegraph Junior Golf Championship and is ranked number two in the under 18 age group in Europe.
Elsewhere, Billy Hendry came second in the National Open Water Swimming Championships, and Lydia Norton was third in in the National U18 Eventing Championships.
Emily Goolden and Robert Kemp won the Yorkshire Foil Fencing Championships and Brooke Beamond won the U15 National Water-Skiing Championships.
Within school, teams have been entered in a wide range of sports and the Year 9 girls’ hockey team won the Coastal and Wolds Championships.
Support has continued for the newly-formed triathlon club, which had a full day’s training with international para-triathlete, Melissa Reid.
Angie Francis, Headteacher, said: “Sport is an important part of life at QEGS and we support all of our students to fulfil their potential whatever their talent may be.
“We have some exceptionally able pupils who may one day stand alongside nominees for Sports Personality of the Year!’

Lydia went on to come individually 3rd in the National U18 Eventing Championship contributing to the Midlands’ Team’s 2nd place).
