Skegness Grammar’s netball team produced a battling performance despite a 21-6 defeat to Woodhall Spartans.

Grammar began the match with a strong tempo, but Woodhall’s defence proved a match and they fended off the many Skegness attempts. This allowed Woodhall to continually regain possession and score a few quick goals.

The Skegness Grammar team kept fighting back and after six minutes were rewarded with their first goal, thanks largely to centre Emma Keay who worked hard to get in position for passes down the length of the court and fed the ball precisely for the shooters.

The game continued in this way with Skegness working hard and winning decent possession. But their valiant attempts to score were often thwarted by Woodhall’s strong defence in a competitive, tight game.

But Woodhall’s consistently accurate and swift shooting, notably from Niamh Addison, saw them gradually increase their lead. They finished the game on a high, setting the tone from the start of the final quarter by scoring within five seconds.

Nevertheless, Skegness Grammar’s perseverance never waned and the team worked well as a unit to score a string of consolation goals in the final quarter. Other scores: Westlea 29-2 Micronclean Juniors; K&S 49-5 Micronclean; Fresh Fitness 21-9 Horncastle Belles; Hallgate 25-10 Louth; Sunnydecks 13-23 Horncastle Tigers.
