Running Club

A total of 107 individuals and 10 relay teams set out to tackle the Boston to Skegness Seabank Marathon on Sunday, helping to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

First to arrive at the finish in 3 hrs 15 mins, for the second year running, were the Skegness & District Running Club men’s relay team of Mark Lyon, Logan Graves, Andy Shelton, Ian Russell, Simon Pickwell, Martin Tebbs, Paul Sleaford and Stuart Cragg.

They were closely followed by the first ladies’ team, also from Skegness & District, comprising of Sharon Gallichan, Beckie Dawson, Fallon Lafferty, Leanne Rickett, Helen Blair and Melanie Standbrook, who completed the course in 3 hrs 37 mins.

Boston members of Skegness & District also had a team in the relay, calling themselves The Pilgrims.

The team was made up of members new to running in the last year or so and finished seventh in 4 hrs 54 mins.

The team, led by Sarah Burton, included Danielle Basker, Sanjiv Jain, Roberto Rocci, Gemma Wills, Lynsey Ballans Kerry Bennett and Ela Buyukkaraca Smith.

Ela, who has just completed the club’s latest beginners course, was thrilled to have been part of the team.

“It was so exciting, I loved every minute”, she said.

The club even kept hold of the first dog home title when Totty, owned by Helena Shelton, crossed the line.

Skegness Coasters

Skegness Coasters’ Neil Stocks and Jackie Rhodes ran the 38th annual Seabank Marathon on Sunday.

Neil completed the tough, multi-terrain course in 5hrs and 10 mins, finishing 28th overall.

Martin Jessop, Robert Rennie and David Freeman took part in the Woodhall Spa Triathlon on Sunday, gaining times of 1.22, 1.33 and 1.34 respectively.

Phaedra Bryant participated in the Louth 5K Run For Life and Rebecca Porter and Elly Rutherford completed their 10 Miles For Harrison all on the same day.

Skegness Coasters caters for all abilities and they meet every Tuesday at The Welcome Inn at 6.30pm.
