Runners take on the half marathon

Skegness & District Running Club memebers headed to Grantham for the Newtons Fraction Half Marathon.

Grantham Athletic Club staged the 11th edition of this popular race.

Starting at South Kesteven sports stadium in Grantham, the course heads out on to country roads and a nice three-mile stretch along the Grantham to Nottingham canal towpath.

It is an undulating course with two challenging hills of approximately half-a-mile in length at six miles and 10 miles, followed by a long gradual downhill back towards the stadium finishing with a lapof the running track and a grandstand finish.

Stuart Cragg, from Spilsby, continued his marathon preparations with a solid time of 1 hr 19 misn 46 secs to finish in ninth place overall, and he was awarded the prize for first veteran over 40.

John Burton, from Boston, is a regular at this race and improved upon his time from last year by more than two minutes, running well to finish in 1:39-01 for 100th place and 15th in his age group.

Helen Blair continued her amazing run of form, during the previous twelve days she had set personal best times for 5k and 10k and here she improved her half marathon PB by a massive 11 mins and 45 secs to record 1:42-32, finishing as 14th lady and seventh in her age group.

Daniel Francis has been logging some long training runs in preparation for the Milton Keynes marathon - and they are paying off as he reduced his personal best by 1 min 11 secs to finish in 1:54-28.

Kerry Bird put down a marker as she embarks on her marathon training, and she was very happy to sneak in a sub-two hour time to record 1:59-49.

John Bide was running his second half marathon in eight days and improved upon his previous week’s time by almost 10 minutes, sprinting down the finishing straight to clock 2:10-23.
