Second spot is up for grabs in the Sid Dennis and Sons Ltd Division One of the William Hill Darts League.

New Park Rangers were sitting pretty in the runners-up position, but lowly Liberal Lads threw a spanner in the works with a 6-4 success.

Liberals raced into a 3-1 lead after the first set of singles and the pairs were shared.

New Park squared things up at 4-4 following the second round of singles, but it was to be the Liberals’ night as Gordon McQuillan (8x100, 105, 125, 132, 2x140) and captain Eric Hammond (3x100) won the final two singles.

Julian Smith (3x100, 125) and Matt Reeson (5x100, 2x140 and 16-dart leg) also threw well for Liberal, while Graham Froud (4x100, 140), Graham Fitton (4x100, 103, 111) and Brad Martin (2x100, 140) had good throws for New Park.

Barkham Arms fielded a below-par team as they travelled to the Marine to play the 501s, but they came away with a hard-fought 6-4 win to give themselves a chance of second.

They now sit two points behind New Park Rangers with a game in hand, and a slightly better leg difference.

High scores from this game went to the 501s’ Lee Woods (5x100, 105), Chris Fletcher (4x100, 119, 125, 140), Jamie Cooper (133, 116, 140), Rick Seaman (2x100, 125) and Barkham’s Liam Clark (3x100, 121, 125, 2x140), George Millington (121, 135) and Chris Simpson (4x100, 101, 121, 134, 137, and legs in 15 and 19 darts).

Martin Bell hit 11 scores of 100 or better, Lee Yates had three, David Tuplin nine and Colin Lees hit five.

Dads Army had Darrell Webb in form.

In the Sid Dennis and Sons Ltd Division Two, Railway Cobras have won the league and WMC Amigos have all-but secured second spot with a close-fought draw with third-placed Seaview Raiders.

Steven Emsen (4x100, 140) and Geoff Poulter (100, 133) hit good scores for Seaview, while Amigos had Spencer Davis (3x100) and Gareth Jowett (6x100, 125)on target.

BDO World champion Scott Mitchell will hit town on October 16 to face local arrowmen at the Ex Service (8pm)

Martin Bell, Jamie Cooper, Ken Wilson, Dave Tuplin, Gareth Jowett, Brad Martin and Pete Evans will be among those to take him on.
