Burgh and District 55-4 - Burgh won by six wickets.

Burgh & District CC made it back-to-back victories when they notched up a six-wicket victory against Graves Park at Station Road on Saturday.

The win came seven days after their success at the expense of Claypole, also in the South Lincs and Border League Division Two.

After being put into bat, Graves Park never got going and were bowled out for 54 after only 31 overs.

Bemused by Burgh’s opening attack of slow-medium and off-spin, by the 12th over the visitors were 12-4 and in a right muddle.

Recovery from this position appeared against the odds and so it proved.

Terry Wilkinson (1-9) and Justin Owen (3-23) gave way to Tony Beardsley (3-7) and Phil Sharp (3-15) and the innings slowly bumbled to a halt.

Burgh’s reply was one of caution and patience as Ryan Lawson and Martin Hodgson sent down 16 overs of exceptional accuracy, Lawson bowling Richard Underwood with a crackerjack delivery in the process.

The latter proved a sole early success for the visitors as second-wicket pair of Anthony Wilson (five) and Pete Blackmore (29) gradually drew Burgh closer and closer to their target.

They almost saw The Millers through to victory but, with only four runs needed, both would fall as part of a three-wicket hiccup that ruffled Burgh’s composure.

Home nerves were finally assuaged in the 29th over.
