Video: Record 22,000 turn out for AMCA Skegness Beach Race 2012

Organisers behind the phenomenally successful Skegness beach races have spoken of their delight after a record turnout made this year’s weekend the biggest yet.

Around 22,000 people are estimated to have taken full advantage of the dry weather to watch this year’s motoring mayhem - well up on the 20,000 who saw last year’s spectacular.

And the fantastic total included a 14,000-strong audience on Sunday alone!

‘We’ve had fantastic weather every year and enjoyed a great weekend again - with over 250 riders over the two days and some excellent racing,” said Suzanne Potts, AMCA’s general manager.

“We received a fantastic welcome from the townsfolk.

“The event has grown year-on-year and we are very pleased with it and we hope to continue to run it for many years to come.”

Suzanne added that around 8,000 people saw Saturday’s races, with around 14,000 on Sunday.

She also sang high praise for the local businesses and authorities for their fantastic support of the event.

The racing also went off without a hitch, with AMCA saying that no serious injuries were reported amongst the hundreds of riders.

East Lindsey’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, Coun Craig Leyland, said: “I am delighted that we’ve been able to support AMCA in delivering another major event for the coast.

“I’d like to thank AMCA, all the riders who came to the resort for the weekend and the many thousands of people who watched.

“With a high influx of people, this event can only be good for businesses and the economy and we look forward to working with AMCA again in 2013,” he added.

A provisional date of November 16 and 17 has been set for next year’s beach racing.
