A talented youngster was lauded recently as the ‘Most Accomplished Young Angler’ with an award presented at the Welcome Inn, Skegness.

Joel Brewster, in association with ‘Gerry’s of Nottingham/Talk Angling’ received the award after winning this year’s Junior Championship at Southview Skegness against the odds, with fish up to six and a half pounds for a total weight of 30lb 4oz. And Joel, from Nottingham, could not have asked for a better birthday present, after just turning 13.

Joel fished with the glowing thod method, which he had only used once before and, not being used to it, Joel lost many fish throughout the match.

To top that, the reel he just brought for his birthday broke, but Joel kept his cool along with his father’s help to land his fish.

Joel was a clear winner in this three-hour match, of which 28 anglers in total fished.

“If it was not for his broken reel and a lot of bad luck, Joel would have had in excess of a 100lb in this three hour match”. said a match spokesperson.

Gerry’s of Nottinghamshire later sorted Joel a reel out as a prize, a Shimano nexave rc 4000 reel, after problems with the initial prize. Tackle 4 U also presented their own prize.
