Local superbike racer Peter Hickman has begun the new season in top form with a win in his first event of the year - not in the Superbike class but a six hour Moped Mayhem Endurance race with Teeside Bike Track Club at the Teeside Kart Club.

The 25-year old Lincolnshire rider contested the event on a Honda C90 in a team consisting of Barry Burrell, Richard Cooper and Tom Fisher, all of whom race within the British Superbike championship and support classes and joined forces to become Team YOLO to take part in the fun event.

They fielded a second bike which was retireved from the scrap heap, for a group of friends, calling themselves Team YODO and they completed the six hour race second in class behind their rivals.

It was raining and the track wet and slippery for the duration of the six hours, which caused lots of drama and multiple crashes for the two teams.

They also encountered numerous mechanical problems including gearing failures and a snapped chain which caused them to drop back some 12 laps at one stage.

But they managed to pull themselves back into contention and Hicky’s team crossed the finish line to take the win with Team Yodo following in second place in class.

“We had a wonderful time out there,” said Hickman. “Dispite the poor weather we really enjoyed ourselves and had a great laugh on the bikes.

“It was all a bit of fun but the competititve streak was still there and we were determined to put on a good show and take the win.

“Let’s hope we continue in the same vein when we get on track at Brands Hatch for the first round of the British Superbike championship!”

Hickman has signed a one-year contract to race in the 2013 British Superbike championship for top team GBmoto Racing and will contest the 2013 championship onboard their Honda CBR1000.

Hicky has accrued a vast amount of experience and knowledge over the last six years and is delighted to be joining GBmoto Racing.

He will race alongside Dan Linfoot (Linny) in the championship and is looking forward to the new season on the Honda Fireblades prepared by John Trigger.

Hicky will take part in a series of pre-season test sessions ahead of making his debut for GBmoto Racing in the opening round of the 2013 British Superbike championship at Brands Hatch on April 7.
