Entertaining Horncastle in the Lincolnshire Men’s County League Division Two at Wainfleet Road last Saturday, Skegness won on four of the five rinks played.

All four winning rinks won well with three of those rinks having a ten shot advantage but with a 26-11 card it was Bryn Foxon, John Clarke, Keith Findley and Derek Tasker who headed the scoring in the 118 shots to 75 victory 16 points to 2.

Following a positive start to the season the Skegness Men’s over 60s ‘B’ team travelled to Grantham in the Lincolnshire Men’s Over 60s League Division Two with high hopes on Tuesday and shared the rink score winning on two rinks and drawing the other, the aggregate points went to Grantham after a crushing 31-11 deficit from a Skegness rink, the total scores were 96 shots Grantham and 92 Skegness, the points score Grantham 13 Skegness 5.

For Skegness Ray Houlgrave, Roy Brummitt, John Sampson and David Briggs led the scoring when winning by 27 shots to 8.

On Wednesday the Men’s Over 60s ‘A’ team travelled to Stamford in the same league where Mac Holland, Maurice Kemp, John Mountain and Bert Crofts with a 27-19 card were the only Skegness rink to win in a 103-75 defeat by 16 points to 5 to Stamford, as the remaining rinks struggled to find the pace of the carpet.

With a diminished playing strength on this form, the ‘A’ team will struggle to return to the First Division.

Outside Bowling Club Spilsby regularly visit Skegness Indoor Bowls Club for friendly matches and on Sunday morning had the advantage on three of four rinks played.

Spilsby veterans Dave Mowbray and Ray Cartwright both featured on winning rinks in the Spilsby 61-56 shots win.
