Playing their final match for this season in the Lincolnshire Men’s County League Division Two against Grantham the Skegness bowls squad still had a faint chance of promotion.
However, they relied on the strength of the Lincoln team to defeat rivals Scunthorpe by a full 18 points.
At Wainfleet Road with several regulars missing, the home side pulled out all the stops to win by 18 points to nil and a 114 shots to 69 as Scunthorpe managed six at home against the league leaders to deny Skegness promotion by two league points.
Finishing the season with a match at Dunholme in the second division of the Lincolnshire Men’s Over 60s League Second Division Skegness B struggled to score as the positive home side looked to pull clear of the bottom league placing which they did in style when winning on all five rinks 112 shots to 63 and 18 points to nil.
This was a disappointment for Skegness B who had enjoyed a better season.
Skegness’ weekend squad welcomed Whittlesey Indoor Bowling Club to Wainfleet Road on Sunday for a friendly match on all six rinks in which several new members took the opportunity to try competitive bowling.
After a very close game Skegness won by three shots, 102 to 99 in the closing stages.
