Skegness windsurfer Robert York is relishing the opportunity to go head-to-head with a number of Olympic medallists.
The 19-year-old is in his first year in the senior fleet category and has competed in the GB Olympic ranking series, where he finished third.
Competitions in Palma, Majorca, and Medemblik, the Netherlands, have seen Robert compete with London 2012 champion Dorian Van Rijsselberg and silver medallist Nick Dempsey.
“The opportunity to compete against guys of this standard is fantastic, I am learning with every race,” said Robert, a lifeguard at Butlins.
“The last two competitions have been really tough.
“I have had some good races finishing in the top 10, my aim now is to improve my consistency.”
Palma and Medemblik were qualifiers for the prestigious ISAF World Cup where the top 40 ranked sailors are selected.
Robert found himself 41st in Medemblik but due to a competitor declining his invitation, he has been invited to compete at the regatta at Weymouth’s National Sailing Academy, which begins today.
Following this, Robert (pictured), a former Skegness Aacdemy pupil, will be jetting off to Mondello in Sicily for the RSX European Championships on June 22.
