LOCAL short track rider Ben Baker took part in the Braintree Bonanza, riding against top riders from the UK and Europe.
Ben raced in the Skegness meeting, in 85th place out of 150 riders, and said it was hard going, but put him in good stead for the Braintree meeting.
In practice, he performed well, and came third in his heat.
In the semi-finals, he beat Jason Crump and Ady Collins, and in the final had the pick of the front row, with Ady Collins on the inside and Peter Boast on the outside.
The first corner was very tight, with Ben just managing to get the better drive out of the corner into the lead, holding on with Ady Collins tight on his back wheel.
Ben kept a tight line, but as he went wide, Ady Collins scraped through, just holding Ben off the winning line.
It was great racing and Ben finished the year on a high and is one of the top riders in the UK after his hard work throughout 2010.
