Winning on all rinks at home and away against Dunholme Ladies, Skegness Ladies’ indoor bowlers moved ino the next round of the National ‘Yetton Plate’, a competition for those who lost in the first round of the ‘Yetton Trophy’.
Away at Dunholme, captain Alice Salmon led by example and, supported by Brenda Rice, Janet Booley and Dot Small, headed the scoring in a 26-13 win.
At home Joan Usher, Brenda Manning, Jackie McAlindon and Ann Ladums who trailed at eighteen ends scored seven shots in the last three ends to win 18-13.
Rinks skipped by Muriel Coulson, who led throughout, won 28-20 and Jean Veall 15-14 in a close encounter, both added to the 87-67 final score.
A Lincolnshire Men’s over 60s First Division match against Scunthorpe resulted in a 107 shots to 83 win for Skegness, 14 points to four.
Played at Wainfleet Road, the rink of George Curley, John Thorold, Ken Startin and Dave Conroy took advantage of the home green to win 24-9 with Derek Tasker, Maurice Thorold, Dennis Teesdale and Roy Rout adding their support with a 24-13 win.
The same score difference applied to veterans Gerry Armstrong, Bert Crofts, and Maurice Kemp on a rink skipped by Bryn Foxon 31-20.
This win keeps Skegness in contention for the league title.
County and club competitions occupied all rinks last weekend, in the well supported club ‘Tuplin Trophy’, a mixed pairs competition.
Bryn Foxon joined Lynne Rigby in a tie against Sue and Terry Walker. Bryn and Lynne had the better of early ends, leading 18-11 after twelve. Aa splendid effort from Sue and Terry just failed as they won the last four ends, losing by just one shot, 17-18.
Other results were Irene Ford and Derek Tasker 10, Margaret Humphries and Roy Witherington 17, Jean Veall and George Curley 16, Ann Ward and Ken Startin 9, Brenda Manning and John Sampson 12, Brian Kilby and Muriel Coulson 18.
