Ladies come through a tough game to claim title

IN the final game of the season only a win would clinch the title of Lincolnshire Women’s league champions.

However, a strong Boston side was intent on spoiling the party.

Both teams started well and after some clever work young Vicky Allen was strategically placed to push the ball over the goal line for Alford’s opener. Shortly after Vicky added to her tally with Alford’s second.

While Alford enjoyed much of the attacking play, shortly before half time Boston fought their way back into the game when some lax marking by Alford left their centre forward free to strike to finish the half 2-1 to Alford.

Alford started the second half brightly but a rejuvenated Boston side emerged and closed down much of Alford’s play. This disturbed the home team’s game and suddenly Boston looked the stronger side.

Against the run of play Alford’s Vicky Allen added her third of the game to give Alford a 3-1 lead.

Undeterred Boston pressed and were awarded with a short corner which they cleverly converted to bring them to 3-2.

Alford’s defence dug deep knowing another Boston goal would ruin their title hopes and, as the time ticked away Alford were awarded a short corner right on the final whistle which captain Kelly Tuplin struck to finish the game 4–2 victors and more importantly champions of the Lincolnshire Women’s Hockey League.

With Alford now promoted to the East League, they would welcome any new players. For details contact Kelly Tuplin on 07703 640255.
