What do most people do to celebrate their 50th birthday?
Some may hold a big party, the more daring may perhaps treat themselves to a sports car.
However, Skegness Tri Club’s Jamie Gordon is not most people and instead he decided he wanted to mark his half century by completing one of the toughest challenges on the planet - The Kona Ironman 70.3 in Hawaii.
In extreme heat, Jamie started the event with a gruelling 1.2-mile open-water swim.
After a quick transition into his cycling gear, the athlete began the energy-sapping 56-mile bike leg.
And if that wasn’t enough, more was to come.
After a second transition, Jamie had the small matter of a half marathon to run.
However, he had enough left inthe tank to cross the line after completing the 13.1 miles in an overall time of 8 hours and 30 minutes.
With his wife Elizabeth and family there for support, Jamie pushed himself to his physical limits to achieve something that very few people could.
Jamie’s friends from Skegness Tri Club and other family members in the UK were able to track his progress throughout the event.
