Almost 200 runners turned out on Sunday to take part in the inaugural Skegness 10k race.

Skegness Coasters organised the race which was officially started by Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard in Emmerdale.

The first man past the finish line was Adam Dalton from Louth Athletic Club in 34mins 43 seconds.

In second placed came Ben Evison of Skegness Coasters with a time of 34 minutes 51 seconds. The first lady home was Beverly Wilson, from Cleethorpes and District ATC, in 39mins 39 sec.

The oldest competitor taking part on the day was an 81-year-old gentleman who finished in midfield.

Starting out at Southview Leisure Park, the course looped around the park then headed out over the golf course and out on to Everingtons Lane, turning left up Hides Lane, left again onto Ingoldmells Road.

At 3.3 miles runners turned right onto Youngers Lane and right again back over the golf course to push for the finish.

The flat fast course is an ideal course to gather a personal best for runners, especially if the weather is fine on a cool winter day.

Skegness Mayor, Coun George Saxon said: “The weather on the day was cool but fine and it was a pleasure and privilege to hand out the medals sponsored by Skegness Town Council to all the competitors at the end of the first ever Skegness 10k.”

“This event is now set to run annually around the same time of the year and I’m sure it will entice more visitors to Skegness out of the holiday season.

“I’d like to say well done to everybody who took part, especially the input of Coun Steve O’Dare, who also took part in the race, actor Chris Chittle, Southview Leisure Park, all the race organisers and marshalls and the hard work put in by the Army Cadets,” he added.
