HOCKEY players who have taken part in four decades of Skegness Easter Hockey Festivals gathered at the resort’s Richmond Drive sports ground at the weekend to mark the sporting milestone.
Old photographs and memorabilia were on show during the event as players past and present shared their views, and their memories of festivals as far back as the 1970s.
The host club’s Richard Hill, who had played in all the previous 39 festivals, showed his huge appetite for the competition by donning his goalkeeper’s gear to take part in 12 of the games.
This included the match between Skegness Old Boys and Horseshoe touring hockey club, which kicked off the festival on Friday evening. Horseshoe won the curtain-raiser by three goals to one.
There was success for the host club, with the ladies picking up their trophy. The Foxes from Leicester won the mixed event and Roses of Gainsborough collected the men’s trophy.
