ROLLER-SKATERS, sponsors and match officials are being sought to help get an emerging roller derby team up and running in the Skegness area.

Skegness mother of four Georgina Hammond was inspired to start a team after watching the county’s only existing squad, the Lincolnshire Bombers, online.

She said: “I’ve been watching them on the internet and it just looks amazing but I’ve got four children and a husband who works so getting out to Lincoln would be too difficult.

“At the moment it’s really early days, we haven’t got a venue yet but I’m hoping to find some people who are interested in making it work.”

Roller derby was originally played only in America but recently spread to the UK where it has steadily grown in popularity.

It is a contact sport played by two teams of five who skate in the same direction around a track.

Each team has a designated scoring player, who earns points by lapping members of the opposing team, while those players attempt to block their progress.

Georgina hasn’t skated for more than a decade and is inviting women over 18 of all levels of ability to join the team

She is also seeking help organising the team, volunteer match officials and potential venues and sponsors to come forward.
