Five new bests in excellent times for Alford Wheelers’ cyclists

THE second round of the Alford Wheelers’ 10-mile league took place last Thursday evening in ideal conditions.

Despite the poor state of the Sutton-on-Sea road, some excellent times were recorded, including five personal bests.

The winner was guest rider John Ozrerkey of the Thurcroft Club, from South Yorkshire, in 23 minutes and five seconds, with Lincoln Wheeler Dave Gates secondplace with 24 minutes. Phil Heyes came third in 24 minutes and 19 seconds.

Other top times were: G. Palmer 24.49; M. Pell 24.51; S. Carter 25.41; N. Cooper 25.50; P. Page 25.56; J. Needham 26.00.

In the juvenile event the results were: P. Rothery 25.23; T. Wright 25.56; R. Thomas 26.33; A. Rowley 28.00; M.Rothery 29.24.

The handicap winners were: 1, Michael Rothery 29.24 (allowance 9.47) Net 19.35; 2, Peter Rothery 25.53 (allowance 5.19) Net 20.04; 3, Peter Page 25.56 (allowance 5.33) Net 20.23; all three riders’ times were personal bests.
