Willoughby rider Peter Hickman recorded a brace of top 10 finishes, but clutch problems cost him a third as the British Superbikes championship visited Oulton Park last weekend.

Hickman injured his hand and damaged the RAF Reserves BMW bike in a crash on the second lap of qualifying which put him down in 24th for Saturday’s race. But spurred on by his podium finishes at Cadwell in the previous round, Hicky fought back to finish 10th.

He began race two on the sixth row, and again picked his way through the field to claim a superb sixth place at the chequered flag.

But his hopes of another strong finish in race three were ruined when his bike developed clutch problems on the sighting lap.

Hickman now lies joint 10th overall with 103 points with three rounds and seven races left of the season.
