The best of England’s beach volleyball players will descend on Skegness for the start of the Volleyball England Beach Tour (VEBT) in two weeks’ time.
East Lindsey District Council will host the national competition for the fourth year running on June 15 and 16.
And, for the first time, the action will be exclusively televised by Sky Sports.
The VEBT provides an opportunity to watch top class volleyball players battle it out to become the National Beach Volleyball Champions of 2013 at five beach venues across the country free of charge – starting with Skegness.
The council’s portfolio holder for culture, leisure and tourism, Coun Adam Grist, said: “We are very excited to be able to play host to the 2013 Volleyball England Beach Tour.
“As well as being able to watch first class sport in the resort, people can also have a go themselves.
“Being on television is important too, as it means that Skegness’ Blue Flag award winning beach will be beamed into homes across the country throughout the duration of the tournament.
“We are committed to bringing affordable sporting, cultural and arts events to the district all year round, so this really is a major coup for us. It really will be a fun day out for all the family.”
The VEBT event is free to watch. Volleyball England’s ‘Go Spike’ come-and-try beach courts will also be available to practice your own skills for free.
Lisa Wainwright, Chief Executive of Volleyball England, added: “Volleyball is great for boosting fitness levels, developing skills and generally having fun whilst being active.”
