Ideal conditions bring spree of new bests for Wheelers

A NUMBER of personal bests were achieved in the latest round of the Alford Wheelers 10 mile handicap league, held on the Sutton on Sea road, in ideal conditions.

Thirty-six riders took part in the event, and the best time was that of 16-year-old Peter Rothery, whose 22 mins 45 secs was well clear of runner-up Phil Heyes, in 23-25, and third placed Mark Hill’s time of 24-02.

Other top placings were: fourth, Steven King (High Wycombe CC) 24-05; fifth, Eddie Kaye 24-15; sixth, Chris O’Rourke 24-50; seventh, Mick Pell 25-13; eighth, Brendon Thomas 25-14; ninth, Mark Bembridge 25-15 (personal best); 10th, John Needham 25-26; 11th, Peter Page 25-28; 12th, David Clarke 25-29.

In the under 16s event, the winner was Tyler Wright in 25-41, with Ryan Thomas runner-up in 26-05, and Michael Rothery third in 27-16.

The handicap section was won by Andrew Mawer, in 29-35 (allowance 9-24), nett 20-11, with Mark Bembridge second (allowance 4-39), nett 20-36, Peter Rothery third in 22-45 (allowance 1-53), nett 20-52, and Mark Collingwood fourth, in 27-13 (allowance 6-16), nett 20-57.
