Good rugby from Skegness overcomes Worksop

Skegness 1st XV 22-12 Worksop 1st XV

Skegness entertained top of the table Worksop at the weekend and a delighted home support witnessed a vital victory.

The first try came within the first seven minutes from good open running rugby. The initial break was made by Halliday who passed inside to Mawer who off loaded to Divilly to twist and turn to touch down over the try line. Halliday converted.

Dean increased his try tally for the year when he capitalised on good scrummaging from the forwards. Divilly pounced on a loose ball at the side of the scrum. Dean ripped the ball and dotted down to score for 12-0.

Worksop scored the first points of the second half as they moved the ball wide. Defensive miss-communication saw the winger breeze over to score in the corner.

Turnover possession in midfield from Taylor caught the defence on their back foot, Smith accelerated forwards towards a certain five points but a twin tackle and foul play gave Captain Halliday the chance to take three points.

Dean scored his second from another open running try. Farnsworth seemed to give Jenkins a hospital pass inside his own 22 but the supporting winger wriggled clear to move down the field. Taylor continued the move and found Scupham running straight and true. Dean in support knifed through the remaining defenders to score under the posts.

Skegness conceded another try to allow Worksop a life line back into the game and possibly losing bonus points. Ball watching and low defenders on the blind side saw a long conspicuous pass out to the flanker to score a try in the corner.

The seasiders felt they should have scored more tries and gained that vital bonus point but sending Worksop home empty handed was a bonus.

Skegness has a long arduous journey to Tupton next week.
