Sills & Betteridge Lincolnshire League
Skegness United FC 5
Lincoln United Reserves 2
SKEGNESS United extended their unbeaten run to 12 games with a comfortable victory at Wainfleet Road.
United got off to the best possible start when good play between Andy Hallam, Kurt Crossley and Jack Wightwick led to Andi Reeson giving the home side the lead with a tidy finish within the first minute of the game.
The hosts bossed the game in the early exchanges and created further chances but, after 10 minutes, they seemed to take their foot off the gas a little and allowed the Lincoln side to get back into the game.
Skinner had to be alert to make two last-ditch tackles in the space of a few minutes as the away team tried to hit United on the counter.
United almost doubled their lead when Reeson whipped in a fantastic cross from the right that was met powerfully by Callum Hyland but crashed against an upright and was cleared to safety.
On the half-hour mark United finally increased their lead with two quick-fire goals in the space of a few minutes.
First Crossley showed great feet in avoiding three desperate attempts to win the ball and calmly slotted past the keeper with aplomb.
Then Reeson got his second of the game after great work by Jack Wightwick to make the score 3-0.
However, within a minute Wilcockson was allowed to turn inside onto his right foot and unleash a powerful shot that squirmed under Pritchard’s body in the home goal to reduce the arrears to 3-1 at the interval.
The away side seemed to start the second half with a bit of a spring in their step after the goal at the end of the first half, and Pritchard had to be on hand to make a good save from a Shipman effort.
Wightwick again enjoyed some mesmerising runs through the away team and, on one such occasion, he left three players in his wake before releasing Crossley with a great ball who should have done better.
United extended their lead, with Wightwick again the architect. After Reeson played a short corner on the left young Wightwick tore through the visitors’ defence before pulling the ball back for Jordan Walden to score, although Crossley claimed he got the final touch.
Goal number five soon arrived when a cross came in from the right, which was flicked on by skipper Jordan Walden, and Danny Stevens arrived unmarked to force the ball home.
The scoring was not complete though as the away side were able to add to their tally when a poor back pass by Reeson put Wilcockson one-on-one with the keeper, and he lofted the ball over the advancing Pritchard to complete the scoring.
United play their final league game of 2011 next Saturday by travelling away to Humbertherm for a 2pm kick-off.
