CGB Humbertherm 1
Skegness Town 4
Skegness Town secured qualification for the quarter-finals of this season’s Supplementary Cup with a comfortable Group B win at CGB Humbertherm.
The seasiders’ 4-1 success guarantees them a place in the last eight, and they will almost certainly enter the next stage as group winners, after their third win in the competition.
Town travelled without key defenders Miles Chamberlain, Liam Parker, Andy Parish and Courtney Warren.
Ben Davison dropped into the back four to partner Jamie Epton in a central role, while Ben Drysdale returned to the side at left back.
Josh Bartlett also got 90 minutes under his belt at right back and there was a full game for Kurt Crossley in attack.
Skegness opened brightly, but they failed to convert any of their chances until Will Britton’s 27th minute effort.
Daniel Stevens levelled for the home side 90 seconds after the re-start, but the seasiders regained their composure and restored their lead in the 61st minute when Jordan Smith steered a shot from 15 yards beyond the dive of Daniel Harrison.
Five minutes later the same player fired home his second of the game after a neat move carved open the Therm’s defence.
Smith had a couple of chances to complete his hat-trick before a late strike from Crossley completed the scoring.
A delighted Town boss Nick Chapman said: “We do need to be a bit more clinical, to kill these games off.
“But in the end our quality shone through.”
