Skegness United enjoy comfortable win on weather hit league weekend

Skegness United have opened up a three-point gap between themselves and title rivals Cleethorpes Town Reserves after a comfortable win over Market Rasen Town, despite finishing the game with ten men.

Player-manager Mark Hallam received his marching orders at Wainfleet Road Playing Fields as his team notched their 15th league win of the season.

Ryan O’Loughlin gave United the lead and Kurt Crossley capitalised on a mistake by the visiting keeper to double the advantage.

After the tricky Luke Rayner-Mistry was brought down, Crossley converted from the penalty spot to make it 3-0.

Josh Clarke added a fourth to complete the scoring.

The rest of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League programme was postponed due to the weather.

On Saturday the top two in the league cross swords, with Skegness United hosting Cleethorpes Town Reserves. Clee will be looking to avenge a 1-0 defeat inflicted by the leaders at the Linden Homes Sports Ground earlier this month.

Nettleham have a chance to consolidate their fourth place when they entertain Market Rasen Town at their Mulsanne Park home.

Hykeham hope to add to the three points they were awarded in the committee room this month when they travel to Horncastle, while Sleaford Town Reserves, who have just six league games left, travel to CGB Humbertherm, who have 17 games to fit in.

The second strings of Lincoln United and Grimsby Borough are preparing for a duel at Ashby Avenue, while their Louth Town counterparts travel to Boston United Reserves’ Jakemans Stadium.

Heckington United have home advantage in the bottom-of-the-table clash with Boston Town Reserves.

The Lincolnshire League is guaranteed at least one team in the final of the Lincolnshire FA Junior Cup with Gainsborough Town and Ruston Sports contesting one of the semi-finals, while Skegness Town entertain Moulton Harrox from the Peterborough League in the other semi.
