Skegness United 2, Lincoln Moorlands Railway Res 0

DESPITE a well below par performance by United in their penultimate league fixture of the season, they still ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against an industrious Moorlands side on Saturday.

Skipper Paul Watts scored his 28th goal of the season in the opening minute after Arron Scutt had his shot saved initially following a great through ball by Jack Wightwick.

The United faithful had to wait until the 75th minute for the crucial second as the move of the match ended with another clever finish from Jack Wightwick.

Assistant Manager Jason Smith had replaced Ben Pritchard in the United goal and was called upon to make two fantastic saves in the early stages of the first half to keep the lively vistors at bay.

To add to their woes, the United lost the influential Joby Gowshall with a hamstring injury early in the second half that may well rule him out of the Supplementary Cup Final.

Joint Manager Mark Hallam said: “We let all our supporters that braved the poor weather conditions down with a well below par performance, particularly considering what they have been used to at Wainfleet Road this season.

“We will hopefully make up for that on Wednesday night in our final league game of the season against Horncastle Town.

“We hope there is a huge turnout of people from Skegness to pay tribute to this fantastic group of players for a remarkable debut season,” he added.
