E&M Trophy

Grimoldby 3

Skegness United Development 5

Skegness United’s Development side travelled to Grimoldby for the second week in a row - this time progressing in the E&M Trophy following a goalless league encounter.

As with previous games between the two, this turned out to be a fantastic cup tie, played in good spirits by two teams playing open attacking football in what proved to be difficult conditions.

The first 15 minutes saw the back four of Hayes, Leatherland, Reid and Ashwell soak up the pressure from the home team, but it was Skegness who scored first on 15 minutes when a through ball from Matt Charles found Dom Murray-Parris, who slotted home from 12 Yards.

This lead was to be short-lived.

Almost from the kick off, Grimoldby drew level to make it 1-1.

This seemed to spur United into action and the midfield of Briggs, Paul, Charles, Walker and Murray-Paris took control of the game playing some neat football.

This resulted in a clean finish from Tomm Pickett following neat football from Matt Charles and Daniel Briggs, which saw United finish the half going in 2-1 ahead

In the second half both teams emerged looking for the win, with the home team outplaying united for 30 minutes and scoring two good goals.

With United 3-2 down, Alex Kendrick and Jamie Wolstenholme were introduced, and the impact was almost instant.

United used Murray and Kendrick on each flank to stretch the home team`s defence.

This allowed Wolstenholme to score with two clinical finishes.

With United 4-3 ahead and cruising towards the final whistle and the next round, Picket rounded of a good afternoon for the visitors with a low drive with seconds remaining.
