Brigg Town Reserves 2

Skegness United were left rueing missed chances following Saturday’s Lincolnshire League defeat to Brigg Town Reserves.

Danny Reid struck a late consolation for the hosts, who had plenty of possession but failed to find the net until the final kick of the game.

Things could have been different had George Hobbins’ early 25-yard strike been inches lower, but instead the ball rebounded off the crossbar.

A series of free kicks around the Brigg area failed to pay off before the away side also struck the woodwork.

Troy Lonslow was causing problems to the Brigg defence with his directs runs, but nobody was on hand to convert any of the chances he created.

Brigg took the lead three minutes before the interval, Ben Brown knocking home the loose ball following a good save from Travis Portas.

Claims of a handball in the build-up to the goal were ignored by the referee.

Brigg doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when a through ball found David Deane, who turned his marker on the edge of the six yard box and fired home.

As United looked to get back into the game, Louis Saebe and Harry Ginniff both shot wide when put clear while Brigg wasted a headed opportunity at the other end.

Reid had the final say, slotting home when sent clear, but it wasn’t enough to salvage anything from the game.

UNITED: T. Portas, J. Portas, Howitt, Cunliffe, Muirhead, Hobbins, Paul (Kendrick), Ginniff, Lonslow, Saebe, Reid.
