Lincs football round up


Skegness Town are three points away from the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League title with just one game to play.

The Lilywhites travel to CGB Humbertherm on May 3, with a win, the only result that will secure them the championship crown.

This showdown with the 2009 champions was set up by the Lilywhites’ 7-1 victory over the same opponents at Burgh Road.

The other two league matches involved all four finalists in the League’s cup competitions which take place at the NTR Stadium, home of Lincoln United on May 10.

Challenge Cup finalists Cleethorpes Town Reserves beat Supplementary Cup finalists Horncastle Town by three goals to nil, while their opponents in the final, Skegness United, went down by the odd goal in three at Gainsborough Town.

Skegness Town 7 CGB Humbertherm 1 - The Lilywhites edged closer to their first title since 2008 when they brushed aside the challenge of CGB Humbertherm at Burgh Road.

The victory leaves them needing to beat the same side in the return fixture on May 3 to become champions.

McCauley Parker opened the scoring and further goals from Josh Bartlett, Jack Cotton and two from Liam Papworth made the half time score 5-1.

Bartlett added a second after the break and Liam Parker rounded things off.

New signing Alex Garner scored Humbertherm’s consolation.

The visitors were reduced to ten men with the dismissal of one of them with ten minutes to go.

Cleethorpes Town Reserves 3 Horncastle Town 0 - Kurt Barwick scored twice as Cleethorpes Town Reserves bagged three points at home to Horncastle Town.

Jordan Vatcher was also on target for the home side.

Gainsborough Town 2 Skegness United 1 - Supplementary Cup finalists Gainsborough beat Challenge Cup finalists Skegness United by the odd goal in three at Marshalls Sports Ground.

Town took the lead after 15 minutes when Ryan Hollingworth broke the deadlock.

Just before half time the home side extended their lead through Kraig Wharton.

Ryan O’Loughlin reduced arrears for the seasiders with 15 minutes left on the clock, but they were unable to find the goal to share the spoils.
