Skegness Town 3
Cleethorpes Town Development 3
Seaside rivals Skegness Town and Cleethorpes Town Development battled out a 3-3 draw at Burgh Road on Saturday.
But the Lilywhites will consider it three points dropped after leading 3-1 as half time approached.
Goals from McCauley Parker and Jordan Smith had given the home side a two-goal cushion before Cleethorpes pulled one back.
Then Ben Davison opened his account for the season with the third goal and the points looked secure.
“We were 3-1 up and strolling it,” said a disappointed Town boss Nick Chapman.
“We took our foot off the gas and allowed them back into it with a sloppy goal.”
The Lilywhites had played well at times, but Chapman will be concerned by the way they failed to kill off their opponents.
“In the second half we created a number of chances to wrap things up, but we weren’t at the races,” he said.
“It was just a bad day at the office.”
The Lilywhites had Matt Veall in goal after the midweek withdrawal of Jack Solomon. Luke Rayner-Mistry replaced Josh Bartlett in an otherwise unchanged starting line-up.
On Saturday Skegness are at home again when Sleaford Town’s second string visit Burgh Road for a 3pm kick-off.
