Skegness Town Reserves 0 Swineshead Institute 2
Skegness Town Reserves’ seven-game winning streak came to an end when they were beaten by Swineshead Institute at Burgh Road.
The seasiders spent most of the match on the back foot, defending against a side who played some neat one-touch attacking football.
The fact that Town’s goalkeeper Daniel Simpson was the man of the match spoke volumes, and as early as the fifth minute he was called upon to tip a Swineshead effort onto the cross bar.
Half time arrived without the deadlock being broken and further heroics from Simpson kept his side in the match.
The breakthrough arrived with 15 minutes to go when Simpson was finally beaten by a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
The visitors doubled their lead with five minutes left when Swineshead converted a penalty.
Although disappointed that his side’s winning run had been halted, Town boss Scott Daley remained philosophical.
“We were beaten by a better side,” he said.
“Yes, it was disappointing, but we have made great progress since finishing in the bottom three of the Premier Division last term.”
Indeed the seasiders have already matched last season’s points tally.
On Saturday Skegness Town Reserves travel to Kirton Town for a league fixture.
