Skegness Town manager Nick Chapman is expecting a much sterner test when neighbours Wyberton visit Burgh Road on Saturday, but he was pleased with his side’s start to the new campaign in the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League.
“We got off to a flyer with three early goals, and then took our foot off the gas,” said the Lilywhites’ boss.
Indeed, the home side led at half time with two goals from McCauley Parker and one from former Boston United player Kieron Elliott.
In the second half Skegness moved the ball a lot quicker and got their reward with three more goals. Parker grabbed two more goals to take his personal tally to four and Will Britton opened his account for his new club as the champions completed the rout.
“It will be a tougher test on Saturday. Wyberton had a good win against Ruston Sports and we expect them to be strong, but it was nice to get off the mark with a clean sheet,” said Chapman.
“I was particularly pleased for Will Britton. He deserved his goal, having worked tirelessly all afternoon.”
The six-shooter Lilywhites brushed aside the challenge of new boys Rasen without the likes of Joby Gowshall, Michael Hardy, Jamie Epton, Daniel Cobb and Liam Papworth.
Hardy and Papworth are expected to be in the squad for Wyberton’s visit on Saturday (kick-off 3pm), although there is doubt about the availability of keeper James Lambley, Gowshall, Cobb and Epton.
