ALFORD u14s’ season came to a close with a 4-1 defeat away to Great Ponton in a top-of-the-table clash.

Ponton made full use of the wind behind them to take an early lead after a mistake from the keeper.

Ponton then forced Bakehouse to make a fantastic save knocking the ball out for a corner.

Langlois made connection with the resulting corner to unfortunately put Ponton two-nil up.

Alford came out after the break looking to narrow the gap, but despite playing better it was Ponton who broke and netted their third goal.

Bailey made a great solo effort down the left, passing two players before firing the ball into the back of the net for 3-1.

They kept trying to pull a goal back but in pushing to score again, they left themselves open at the back and Ponton made it 4-1.

The team thanks Martin Bailey and Karl Minor for coaching this season and also to all the parents that have helped.

The team has finished 3/4 in a strong Midlincs league and are looking for three to four new players to add to their squad for next season.
