Nettleham 101 all out
Skegness 105 for 0
(Skegness won by ten wickets)
KEEN to dispel any relegation fears, Skegness destroyed a seemingly doomed Nettleham at Richmond Drive on Saturday.
Harsh words after the previous week’s debacle at Lindum were still ringing in Skegness ears when they won the toss and put bottom placed Nettleham into bat.
And the seasiders, who were without their injured bowler Steve Kirkham, wasted no time putting the record straight, taking a wicket in the first over and wrapping things up by the 34th.
The match marked the home side’s first ECB ‘five-for’ of the season and set the standard of performance required if they are to climb back into the top half of the table.
Make no mistake, this was a poor Nettleham outfit, showing a fatal lack of confidence, and Skegness are still bowling too many wide balls; but it would be churlish to dwell on the negatives after such a convincing win.
Lochlan Christian set the tone, bowling a wide with the first ball of the day, but snaring visiting skipper Dan Wright with his fourth.
David Lea and Alexander Graham dug in and gratefully accepted a number of extras to help them keep the scoreboard ticking over.
But when Graham departed on 23, and was followed shortly afterwards by Lea (16) it soon became obvious that Skegness were into a rather long Nettleham tail.
Skegness captain Tony Santini finished with figures of five for 12 off his 9.4 overs, which included two wicket maidens, and there was success with the ball for Christian and Wade McCall.
Skegness openers Norman Brackley and Pete Houghton needed just 17.2 overs to reach the Nettleham total of 101, unmoved by the fact that spectators had been short-changed by only half a match being played.
Houghton was the pacemaker. He reached his 50 in 43 balls as he smacked Simon Grocott for 20 runs in the penultimate over.
