Appeal for Sunday football teams

For three seasons now there has unfortunately not been any specified Sunday football league running within the East Lindsey region.

Yes, there have been teams from the likes of Horncastle and Woodhall Spa who travel to play in the Lincoln Sunday league, but nothing has been in place specifically within East Lindsey for teams to play Sunday football for a while now.

Saturday football is being played on a regular basis within the area, with teams competing in different leagues; Skegness United being crowned champions in the Lincolnshire Football League and teams travelling to compete in the East Lincs Combination Football League. Therefore, with such good representation in Saturday football in the area it would be a real shame that there is no ‘old school’ Sunday morning football available to the teams within the area.

The potential start up of the new East Lindsey Sunday Football League is going to be led on a needs basis and will be introduced to maximise football participation within the area.

Chris Funnell, Football Development Officer said: “Football clubs within East Lindsey are thriving within Saturday football at this present moment, Skegness have two teams competing within the highest county league possible, with Skegness United becoming champions of the Lincolnshire Football League. Horncastle Town are also competing within the same league. Again other football clubs are competing within different leagues throughout the county on a Saturday, clubs travel to compete in the East Lincs Combination with some teams travelling to play football in Boston on a Saturday.

Therefore, with all these teams playing football on a Saturday it’s hard to think that an East Lindsey Sunday Football League wouldn’t be successful.

All local clubs have been contacted through their club secretaries, but if you’re club would be interested in playing within a local Sunday Football League, this is the perfect opportunity.”

If you and your club are interested in playing within the East Lindsey Sunday Football League then please contact Chris Funnell.
