‘Large hotel would attract tour firms’

EDITOR - I fully welcome the news that a big new hotel is in the planning for Skegness Foreshore.

With the notable exception of the great Butlins Holiday Camp, whenever I read the papers here in Hampshire, despite always seeing coach holidays being advertised for rival English resorts such as Blackpool, Bournemouth, Scarborough, Eastbourne and so on, you barely ever see any coach holidays advertised for Skegness.

Not only would a big hotel be good for the local economy but it would also be good for business.

National coach firms would be able to offer good value-for-money breaks with so much to see and do in the town and of course nearby.

Big organisations and maybe even the odd political party could be more tempted to bring a conference to the resort.

And who knows, if the forthcoming Premier League Snooker event is a success, my great friend Barry Hearn of World Snooker, might even be tempted to hold a ranking tournament in the town one day.

Under the magnificent leadership we are now seeing at Skegness Town Council, East Lindsey District Council and Lincolnshire County Council Skegness and its surrounding area is already starting to fulfil its potential.

I believe that having some bigger hotels in the town on the front, together with what the town already has to offer, would only enhance that.
