Witnesses sought for Skegness pensioner’s fatal fall

Witnesses to a fatal fall involving a Skegness pensioner have been asked to contact Lincolnshire Police.

Matthew Richard Smedley, 93, was riding a mobility scooter near his Castleton Boulevard home at around 11.15pm on Friday, January 4, when he fell.

He was taken to Boston Pilgrim Hospital but sadly died the following day.

Although no other vehicles were involved and the death is not being treated as suspicious, an inquest will be held, similar to when a fatal road traffic collision occurs.

It is understood two men came to Mr Smedley’s assistance after the fall and helped him back home.

Collision investigator Nigel Gascoigne would like to speak to those men and any other witnesses.

Anyone with information should contact the Collision Witness Hotline on 01522 558855 of Lincolnshire Police on 101.
