Buckets and spades at the ready – the first-ever sand-sculpting workshop and competition will be coming to Skegness this weekend.

Skegness Partnership has teamed up with Anglian Water and professional sand-sculpting company Sand In Your Eye to stage the event at Central Beach on Saturday and Sunday.

Sand In Your Eye has worked with a wide range of organisations, including the BBC, Microsoft, 20th Century Fox, Aardman, Team GB, the Barclays Premier League, the RSPB and the NSPCC.

It will be running workshops on both days, with a competition on Sunday afternoon.

Claire Jamieson from Sand In Your Eye said: “We are really excited to be coming to Skegness.

“I used to come to this beach as a child with my great uncle and make sand castles, so it will be fabulous to make some sand sculptures and run workshops here, as it holds special memories for me.

“The sand sculpture competition on Sunday will be an opportunity for everyone to show their creativity and it’s always great to see families working together to create something wonderful.”

The event is being sponsored by Anglian Water and in addition to the workshops and competitions, a member of the Sand In Your Eye team will be making a sand sculpture each day, based on mascots the water company is using for its new Love Our Seaside campaign. Part of the campaign focuses on tackling avoidable blockages.

Collette Parker, community engagement manager from Anglian Water, said: “The vast majority of all blockages that we experience are avoidable.

“Therefore it is really important that we raise awareness of the steps we can take to stop this happening.

“If flooding and pollution arises as a result it is both upsetting and devastating for wildlife.”
